人種差別撤廃を目指した米公民権運動の指導者マーティン・ルーサー・キング牧師が暗殺されたロレインモーテルがそのまま博物館として保存されています。キング牧師は1968年にここのバルコニーで暗殺されました。アメリカではキング牧師の誕生日1月15日前後の、1月の第3月曜日Martin Luther King Jr. Dayとして祝日になっています。館内の展示はアメリカ社会の人種差別の根深さを感じさせるものでした。『I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.』
